The attack plan has been working since most of the major banks reported profits for the past quarter while the rest of the country is still in a recession. This is of course only if you look in your wallet. According to the governmental figures we are no longer in a recession. I wish my boss saw it like that so he could give me a raise.
At the present time the best rate on any checking account is only available for North Carolina residents. This is from Randolph Bank with their Extra Mile Choice account that has an APY of 4.75%. Because of the large demand for such a rate far above the national norm the online banking service that did allow for this account to be signed up for has been temporarily suspended. It should be operational again on August 17, 2010.
There are requirements that must be met including 12 point of sale purchase per statement cycle and there must be at least one direct deposit each cycle.
In another part of the nation just south of Chicago is South Division Credit Union. They are currently offering their members a Freedom Green Checking account with 4.01% APY. This is on balances up to $25,000.
There are no monthly fees and there is a reimbursement of ATM charges up to $25 a cycle. To qualify the member must make 12 VISA checkcard purchased each cycle, pay one bill online and have a direct deposit each cycle that is more than $250.
